Cintia Aleixo

two short and unrelated stories about death / grief。 Both wonderful voice acting and a real pleasure to listen to, the stories。。。 not so much

Lynsey Hall

I have some thoughts about what could be better, and am surprised to hear most people prefer the second part but the first part,"Sea Wall," will forever be the story that stopped me from the brainless activity I pair my listening to (raking leaves in this particular case) to sit down and do nothing but listen。 That must count for something。 I have some thoughts about what could be better, and am surprised to hear most people prefer the second part but the first part,"Sea Wall," will forever be the story that stopped me from the brainless activity I pair my listening to (raking leaves in this particular case) to sit down and do nothing but listen。 That must count for something。 。。。more

Definitely performed well by each actor, but the first story was incredibly challenging to follow and the second was nothing that kept my attention, honestly。 And I’m not sure if this just would’ve been better seen on the original Broadway format。

Valia (beingshelfaware)

First story was okay, but the second half was much more sad。

Megan

Fantastic, would recommend。

Claire

Sad。 But we’ll written。 Listed to audible。 Didn’t like Jake gyllenhall’s narration at all。

Lena Lee

Could anyone please explain to me the part in Sea Life when he says, the cruelest thing he's ever said?" Maybe I'm just thick, or maybe I couldn't understand what he was saying。 It sounded like he said, "you'll get back to the city, of course。" I don't understand the comment at all, much less why it was so cruel? I feel kind of stupid。。。 Could anyone please explain to me the part in Sea Life when he says, the cruelest thing he's ever said?" The first part seems disjointed and was hard to follow。 The second part is much deeper and relatable。 The format and way it is read is rhythmically chaotic, but I got used to it by the end。 Not recommended in general, but might be good for first time parents。

Only good thing about this one was that it was short, so it didn't take a unnecessary amount of my time。 Only good thing about this one was that it was short, so it didn't take a unnecessary amount of my time。 。。。more

The actors were great but I lost interest in the story

These are two different stories, and while it may appear that they don't belong together, they absolutely do。When I think about trying to pinpoint how they go together, what the common themes are, specific imageries, etc it seems to spoil it; like trying to find the end of a Mobius strip。 You can put so much time and energy into trying to figure it out that you miss out on the overall beauty of it all。It's about the power and intensities of Love。 These are two different stories, and while it may appear that they don't belong together, they absolutely do。When I think about trying to pinpoint how they go together, what the common themes are, specific imageries, etc it seems to spoil it; like trying to find the end of a Mobius strip。 You can put so much time and energy into trying to figure it out that you miss out on the overall beauty of it all。It's about the power and intensities of Love。 。。。more

Mercifully short with A Life (3。5 stars) being better than Sea Wall (2 stars)。 I could barely understand what’s going on in Sea Wall and the narrator didn't help with his accent and style。 The second story was so much better in the narration and acting and with a more hopeful ending although the subject matter is still depressing。 I’m going back to reading romance now。 I need all the HEAs I can read。 Mercifully short with A Life (3。5 stars) being better than Sea Wall (2 stars)。 I could barely understand what’s going on in Sea Wall and the narrator didn't help with his accent and style。 The second story was so much better in the narration and acting and with a more hopeful ending although the subject matter is still depressing。 I’m going back to reading romance now。 I need all the HEAs I can read。 。。。more

I, like other reviewers, wish I could only review only the second part of this performance。 "A Life" is just so much better than its counterpart "Sea Wall," from the dialogue to the performance to the timing。 While "Sea Wall" took me several listens to get through, "A Life" had my rapt attention and led me to tears。 If I were to just review these separately, "Sea Wall" would get 1 star, and "A Life" would get 4。5。 I, like other reviewers, wish I could only review only the second part of this performance。 "A Life" is just so much better than its counterpart "Sea Wall," from the dialogue to the performance to the timing。 While "Sea Wall" took me several listens to get through, "A Life" had my rapt attention and led me to tears。 If I were to just review these separately, "Sea Wall" would get 1 star, and "A Life" would get 4。5。 。。。more

Decent story-telling, and some good twists。 A good quick listen if you need to fill an afternoon。

Jami

I listened to these two monologues on Audible。 The narration was excellent and made it enjoyable。 I thought Sea Wall was boring up until the end, and then it came together; some stories can’t be appreciated until the end。 The second story was good throughout。 While I didn’t love the stories, I loved the narrations。

Hali Davidson

A beautiful performance。

Tina Herald

Dads, husbands and sons relating life and death tragedies and feelings。

Phuong Ngng

Caught the play on Broadway and it left such an impression on me, I obsessively looked for the script/ audio book。 I laughed, I cried, I laughed again and broke my heart in pieces。 What a joy。

Riddhi Shah

Both parts of this will make you cry。 Stories about love and loss。

Stacy Kolafa

I agree with the other reviews。 I'm not sure why these were put together aside from telling stories about life, true life。 Well read and performed, but the stories are sad。 I agree with the other reviews。 I'm not sure why these were put together aside from telling stories about life, true life。 Well read and performed, but the stories are sad。 。。。more

Two short stories, that I will definitely listen to again!

Sea Wall was great。 Well written, powerful, and very well voiced。 A Life started off pretty rough。 Gyllelhaal was flat and awkward, with strange pauses。 In the second half of the story, though, he, the story, and the direction gained some momentum and started to come together。 Enjoyed the last few minutes。

Scott

An interesting, well-written introspective look at life and faith。 It would be interesting to see it performed live。

This is an audible version of a play。 I don't know the theater version, but this one was pretty boring to me。 The performance of Jake Gyllenhaal was perfection though。 This is an audible version of a play。 I don't know the theater version, but this one was pretty boring to me。 The performance of Jake Gyllenhaal was perfection though。 。。。more

Written like stream of consciousness, read with all the passion you'd expect if these things were really happening, both of these stories engaged me immediately and completely, and both moved me to tears。 Written like stream of consciousness, read with all the passion you'd expect if these things were really happening, both of these stories engaged me immediately and completely, and both moved me to tears。 。。。more
